September 12, 2018 (New York, NY) — This past Sunday, September 9, BET aired its much- anticipated show, Black Girls Rock — an annual award show that honors and promotes Black women in different fields involving music, entertainment, medicine, entrepreneurship, and visionary aspects. You may have noticed stylish naturalista and Roc Nation’s up and coming singer-songwriter, Victory Boyd, strut down the Black Girls Rock red carpet rocking an original hairstyle that screamed #BlackGirlMagic — a pinned-up, tall, stout, tousled updo. This carefree ‘do is a perfect representation of the free-spirited songstress’ unique style and personality. Victory’s music is a fusion between soul music and folk music with a pinch of spiritual depth– a side of her that she brings out in her hairstyles and fashion.
The incomparable hairstylist who not only slayed Victory’s tresses for the Black Girls Rock red carpet and performance, but also for numerous other events is none other than the renowned, celebrity hair master Monaè Everett. Best known for her stunning, intricate braided styles, Monaè has had her hairstyles featured with national media giants such as Harper’s BAZAAR, ESSENCE, InStyle, Glamour, CNN, and Yahoo! Beauty. Her artistry has been displayed on such celebs as Lilimar Hernandez, Lizzy Greene, Sofia Wylie, Skylar Diggins, Dawn- Lyen Gardner, Taraji P. Henson, and many more.
Monaè combines her professional styling techniques with a flair for originality to help Victory stay true to her personal style. “For Black Girls Rock, I styled Victory’s hair using Mizani and Ouidad products, giving her natural coils volume and a little drama to match her stand-out, soulful, colorful style,” says Monaè. “For Victory, it’s important that I nourish her natural texture while using style elements that not only brings out her personality but also gives her a polished, yet funky, look that always compliments her fashion as well as her music.”
In addition to the BET’s Black Girls Rock appearance, Monaè has styled Victory for a multitude of other occasions. During her Good Morning America performance, Victory rocked an afro with a pinned up side secured by a cute hair accessory. For her BET Awards 2018 appearance, and her national anthem performance for an MLB charity game, Monaè styled Victory’s hair in a big, fluffy, afro with twisted-out ends that distinctively, and perfectly, framed Victory’s entire face.
